I always loved May Day as a kid. I don't know how it worked in any other neighborhood, but in mine, May Day was a BIG DEAL! I would make May Day baskets for all of my neighborhood friends (with the help of my super crafty mother) and rush to deliver them before my dance practice in the evening. I would come home from practice and find May Day baskets galore on the front porch. Every kid's dream, right?!
Of course there were the May Day fails, like the time I ate the salty treats inside one interesting basket, only to find out it was actually full of dog treats for my schnauzer. (The mystery dog treat deliverer is actually one of my new blog followers! I wonder if she's reading this :))
A little May Day throwback for your viewing pleasure! Don't I look awesome in my sweet perm and giant bow? Maybe I should re-create this look again sometime??? Or not??? :)

Happy May Day to all of my fabulous fans! Three lessons to remember from today's post:
1. Remember that not all of the baskets on your front porch are necessarily for you, especially those "salty" looking treats! :)
2. No perms for me. Ever. Again. Sorry, Mom.
3. Thank goodness for contacts.

DeleteI love this post! I remember May Day fondly. I grew up in Columbus and your mom was my FAVORITE teacher of all time (duh). I remember making May Day baskets with paper doilies and pipe cleaners then filling them with popcorn. I was so sad when we moved to Kansas City and nobody had any idea what I was talking about. Glad you're keeping the tradition alive!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your sweet comments, Heather! I agree, she is the BEST! I never knew May Day was a Nebraska thing...so sad for the rest of the country!
